Kraken Tax Records for Ireland: Ledger CSV and API Guide
Use Kraken Ledger CSV and read-only API records for an Irish crypto-tax estimate, while preserving margin, futures, transfer, and history limitations.

Important: Use Kraken Ledger CSV, not a Spot Trades CSV, for the broadest supported import. Kraken documents separate Trades and Ledgers exports, but the ledger is needed to retain balance changes, staking or Earn entries, fees, transfers, and margin-related records together.
Request the right Kraken export
Kraken's Documents Center can create Account Statement, Trades, Ledgers, and Balances exports in CSV or PDF. For Irish Investor, request a Ledger CSV covering the full relevant period. A Trades export alone omits records needed to reconstruct supported income and balance changes.
Kraken says export generation can take from minutes to as long as a week and does not send a ready email. Wait for the request to finish, download the CSV, and keep the original file with the tax-year records.
What the Ledger CSV supports
Irish Investor groups supported spot trades, conversions, spends and receipts; handles supported margin or settled PnL as synthetic transaction pairs; imports staking, Earn, reward, dividend, and crypto-credit income; and normalises Kraken's legacy asset names.
Pending rows without stable IDs, internal movements, true fiat credits, and some fee-only entries are skipped or surfaced for review. Unknown or malformed ledger groups should be resolved rather than treated as complete history.
Where the read-only API fits
The API can incrementally sync supported spot trades, ledger income, deposits, and withdrawals. Kraken's official API export guide documents the permissions needed for export operations; Irish Investor's connection should remain read-only.
Margin trades are not imported through the current API path and futures are outside that surface. Use the Ledger CSV for margin records and add unsupported futures or other activity through a separately reviewed process.
Reconciliation checklist
- Cover every relevant year and confirm the export finished before downloading it.
- Compare spot and conversion quantities, fees, and grouped legs with Kraken totals.
- Review staking, Earn, rewards, margin PnL, and any fee-only or unknown-ledger warning.
- Link crypto withdrawals and deposits to wallets or accounts you own and restore earlier basis.
- Compare API updates with the last complete Ledger CSV rather than assuming the API includes every product.
How Irish Investor helps — and where it stops
Irish Investor recognises the supported Kraken ledger schema, reconstructs supported trade groups, organises income events, and makes parser and API gaps visible for review.
It does not certify that Kraken history, off-exchange wallets, earlier basis, futures, or the legal classification of trading activity are complete. Resolve those boundaries before relying on the annual estimate.
